Pre-vocational programme

The Autumn term will focus on individual showcase pieces.  All pupils need to prepare 3 contrasting songs (1x pre-1960’s musical, 1x 1960-1980’s musical and 1 from a recent musical, 1980+) and 2 contrasting monologues (comedy/serious).  Some of this material will be performed in the TTT Individual showcase in December – see Shows & Events page for other Take Part dates and links.

The pupil’s individual work can be focused towards an individual LAMDA exam.  Each solo exam entry at this level is UCAS accredited and will cost an additional £95 to take. It is completely up to the individual as to whether they actually take the exams or not, we will take them through the course content regardless. If you would like to enter your child for a solo Grade 6 exam; Musical Theatre, Acting or/and Verse & Prose, this will be an additional cost.
The University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) is the organisation responsible for managing applications to Higher Education courses in the UK. Its aim is to help students make informed choices that are right for them – guiding them, as well as their parents and advisers, through the higher education application process. Applications through UCAS are conducted using the UCAS Tariff. This is a means of allocating points to compare post-16 qualifications used for entry to Higher Education.

LAMDA’s Level 3 recognised qualifications (Grade 6+) are included in the UCAS Tariff. The table below shows the UCAS points assigned by grade and attainment level (Pass, Merit or Distinction).

Attainment Level LAMDA Grade 6 LAMDA Grade 7 LAMDA Grade 8 LAMDA PCertLAM
Distinction 12 points 16 points 30 points 24 points
Merit 10 points 14 points 27 points 16 points
Pass 8 points 12 points 24 points 8 points

Some things to consider:

1) Not all universities and colleges use the UCAS Tariff. Around half of all course entry requirements make reference to the Tariff.

2) Use of the Tariff varies – some universities and colleges will list their entry requirements and make offers using only Tariff points; some will ask for specific qualifications and a set amount of Tariff points; and some will request Tariff points only from specific qualifications.

3) You can gain UCAS points for solo LAMDA exams in Musical Theatre, Acting AND Speaking Verse and Prose, allowing you to gain 3 times the amount of UCAS points in 1 exam day.

We are fully aware that our Triple Threat pupils will have a lot going on over the next few years.  We will do our best to support your ‘children’ both physically, spiritually and mentally as they continue their journey with Take Part, and grow into the amazing young people they are to become. We will strive to find a balance of fun and focus whilst understanding the external pressures they are under. You know your children better than anyone, please continue to work with us and to inform us of anything you think we should be aware of. We will do the same.

Good luck to all our Year 12/13 Triple Threat Pre-Vocational Students who are off to new day-time studies this year. SO glad we get to keep you all at Take Part as Students and Staff! :-
